Empowering women at work: HACSU's 2024 Women's Plan

2024-06-25

HACSU proudly presents our 2024 Women's Plan, a comprehensive strategy aimed at advancing gender equality in the workplace and addressing crucial issues affecting working women in health and community services.

HACSU has a long, proud history of championing women’s workplace issues and campaigning to improve women’s working lives. We’ve welcomed recent developments in paid parental leave, superannuation reform, and the national attention now being paid to reproductive health and wellbeing leave. However, there is still a long way to go before we achieve true equality for working women.

Our newly updated Women’s Plan reflects our belief that gender equality must begin in the workplace — to ensure that women are afforded full financial equity, support to report bullying and harassment, and are granted the flexibility to take care of their children and their reproductive health and wellbeing.

Building on the work of our 2022 Women’s Plan, our 2024 plan places an emphasis on addressing women’s pain, ending occupational violence, and the changes needed to retain and support our crucial older women workers.

We’re calling for a number of industrial, social, and policy changes, including:

  • Pregnancy loss leave: Supporting women through difficult times and reducing stigma
  • 12 days of paid reproductive health and wellbeing leave: Ensuring women can attend to their health needs without financial penalty
  • Superannuation reform: Addressing the gender gap in retirement savings
  • New standards in workplace amenities and aides: Improving facilities to support health and comfort at work
  • An industry-wide response to work-related gendered violence: Comprehensive strategies for prevention, reporting, and support
  • Access to rehabilitation treatment and addiction leave: Non-judgmental support for recovery and wellbeing
  • And more
